I want to pick up where I left off in the messages from Passover, looking into the details given us about the death of Jesus on 14th Aviv. We know that at the exact time the lambs were slaughtered for Passover in Egypt, Jesus gave a triumphant cry, "It is Finished" and yielded up His spirit. Afterwards, in order to confirm that he was indeed dead before removing His body from the cross, the Roman soldier pierced His side with a spear.

Joh 19:34  But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came (flowed) out.

The word for 'side' actually means 'rib'. Here is where it gets interesting. There are four occasions in the Bible where people are killed by being struck 'under the 5th rib' if you read the King James translation: 2 Sam 2:23, 2 Sam 3:27, 2 Sam 4:6 & 2 Sam 20:10. Other translations use the word 'abdomen' or 'belly' but chomesh, Strongs H2570 means 'fifth (rib)'. This seems an odd description, until I learnt from a radiologist that the fifth rib on the left hand side is an excellent place to place a monitoring node when doing an electrocardiogram  or ECG, because it is precisely here that the left ventricle of the heart is closest to the ribcage and the outside of the body. Therefore striking someone with a dagger under the fifth rib would ensure penetration of the heart and swift death. And it seems that those intent on killing their adversaries in the Book of Samuel certainly knew of this efficient slaughter method. AND more significantly, the Roman soldier on duty at the cross knew that the piercing between the ribs would ensure death if it had not already happened.

The fact that blood and water flowed out is proof that Jesus had already died, because after death the heart obviously stops pumping and the bloods pools within the heart chambers, and as time goes by, the heavier components — in this case, the red blood cells, sink to the bottom, leaving the clear blood plasma and white blood cells distinct above it, and looking like water because they do not contain iron.

Now what has all this talk of ribs got to do with the first Passover? Do you remember that on 1st Passover, the people of God were released out of Egypt, marshalled or harnessed?

Exo 13:18  But God led the people around by way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the Israelites went up marshalled [in ranks] out of the land of Egypt.

The word for 'marshalled' – chamush – comes from the root word chomesh, meaning 'fifth rib'! So, on the first Passover, it was finished for Egypt and Pharaoh. God had declared through Moses that the plagues would be directed against the heart of Pharaoh in Exodus 9:14. Then finally, God smote Egypt under the fifth rib and pierced the heart of the nation by killing their firstborn! When that piercing was complete, He led forth an army marshalled out of the heart of Egypt.

Exo 12:51  And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.

Now, because Jesus completely fulfilled the pattern established at the first Passover in Egypt, we can see that two different companies, platoons or armies were released from the pierced heart of Jesus — identified as 'water and blood'. 'Marshalled' or 'harnessed' means that each soldier remained in the position appointed them. They stayed in their ranks, just as the Joel 2 army is described:

Joe 2:7  They run like mighty men; they climb the wall like men of war. They march each one [straight ahead] on his ways, and they do not break their ranks. Joe 2:8  Neither does one thrust upon another; they walk every one in his path.

During Passover 5781, when the Lord said He would discuss the heart of the matter in the heart of the country, He referred me to the release of water and blood from His heart and indicated it displayed a message for today. Prophetically, I see two companies, two platoons of this Bridal army being suddenly released at this time from heart of Jesus. All those involved had been seeking to know His heart and His thoughts. They had arrived at this place weary and spent and needing rejuvenation and infilling. In a sense, this had been a time of regrouping and of seeking His face and His will. Then stillness had come and it seemed there was no movement in the Spirit, which had caused a bit of consternation and questioning as the heart beat of God could no longer be heard. Unbeknown to them, the lack of movement was part of being conformed to His death and had precipitated a sifting and a separation — a distinction of position and inheritance portioned.  None of this had been publicly discerned as the settling and separation had been hidden and unseen by others. Then suddenly the piercing and the fast release will take place.

The left ventricle which has been pierced after Jesus' death normally sends oxygenated blood to the body. In the left ventricle, the blood is in a state of being fully equipped with life-giving power and the breath from the lungs to impart as it is pumped out on assignment. However, this oxygen is not contained in every part of the blood. It is the red blood cells which are carriers of oxygen. The plasma serves merely as a transportation medium and the white blood cells are designed to fight disease. They play no part in the transport of oxygen. The blood which gushed from the pierced heart of Jesus was full of oxygen. Before this time, the different parts of the blood could not be distinguished from one another – it appeared to be one homogenous flow in the same direction. The blood of a living person just looks red; one cannot differentiate the plasma and the white blood cells from the red corpuscles. Then, once the heart stops pumping, the blood flow is stilled and the red blood cells sink because they are heavier. Separation is on the basis of differing weights.

Both sections are part of the same army but have different characteristics and therefore different parts to play in kingdom blueprints. So, let's look at the difference between these two companies gushing forth in this season. We could look at these two platoons as those who serve the water of the Word being distinct from those who offer the wine of the Word. The distinction is on the basis of spiritual weight or substance:

  1. The Water Carriers
White blood cells contain DNA of the person from which they are extracted. Therefore this company can be identified as being of Christ. They are born of Him and part of His Body. They carry the water of the Word to humanity, quenching their thirst in a desert season. They intercede and war in the Spirit to protect the Body, just as natural white blood cells fight to eradicate invading germs. The water carriers release the sound of the written Word both in prayer and worship.
  2. The Wine Carriers
Amazingly, mature red blood cells contain no DNA. This platoon is nameless and faceless, having no desire for the acclaim of men. They are the Melchizedek priesthood, with no father or mother, no record of their earthly parentage (Hebrews 7:3). They exist only to carry the sound of the Blood and the received breath of God to humanity.

Remember that in the heart, deoxygenated blood is pumped from the right ventricle past the lungs. As this happens, oxygen is transported through the membranes and loaded into the red blood cells. The lungs look like two upside-down trees with multiple branches. Remember I mentioned how the word for 'apple tree' is tappuach, which comes from a root word puach, meaning 'breath'? (For those to whom this is a new concept, please see my word Personal Pollination)This red blood cell company; the wine carriers, are those who have been awakened under the apple tree by the breath of Him Who is an apple tree among the trees of the woods (Songs 8:5 & 2:3). They live and move and are sustained by the power of an endless life – the resurrection breath of the risen Christ (Hebrews 7:16).

A red blood cell lives for 120 days. Moses had three 40 day encounters before the face of God – 120 days in all, and carried the words he had received to the people of God below. This company gushing forth are weighty in the Spirit and serve the wine of the Word and minister in the power of the Blood, having had face to face encounters with their Bridegroom. Jesus poured His Blood on the Mercy Seat, and it is from this place that the wine carriers minister. They are both priests and kings, having been authorized to release the sound of the Blood which still speaks and the present-day thoughts and words of God imparted by His breath. Their assignment is different to the water carriers and they know their orders.

So the Spirit is speaking of a double portion release, an open display of a marshalled army of bondslaves, conformed to His death; two distinct companies – Water and Blood, messengers of His heart pouring forth into the earth, each in his rank and place.
